Symphony of ice
in Greenland From 10 to 20 August 2006 Le
Diamant |
from:
3760,00€ |
|
| |
|
Your first fabulous meetings
will be in the Denmark Strait, with a family of
whales and sea gulls playing in the currents.
Leaving Cape Farewell to the South, slipping
through to the heart of Prince Christian passage
which is dominated by snowy peaks and clogged up
with little icebergs, Le Diamant will reach the
west coast of Greenland on the Labrador Sea.
Here, little isolated villages look like gardens
of bright colours, and have strange consonant
names such as Qaqortoq, Sisimiut,
Narsarsuaq...

Ports of Call…
REYKJAVIK –
Iceland
Lost in its legendary mists, the capital
of Iceland with 100,000 inhabitants has the
appeal of a little provincial town. The purity
of the air is as gripping as the ever present
arctic terns, geese and wild ducks right in the
centre of the city ! You will be charmed by the
natural sites, reflecting exceptional geological
phenomena.
NARSARSUAQ –
Greenland
The port of entry to South Greenland,
Narsarsuaq is located close to the Inlandsis, a
magnificent ice-cap of blinding whiteness. Here,
Eric ther Red arrived in 981 after leaving
Iceland. as he was approaching this part of
Greenland he named this unknown territory the
"Green Land".

SISIMIUT –
Greenland
2nd town of Greenland, Sisimiut is
nestled at the foot of a great rock just to the
north of the arctic circle. The very varied
countryside of this southernmost town of
Greenland is inviting for some superb walks.
ILULISSAT –
Greenland
In this town, literally called "ice
mountains", there are only 4,000 Greenlanders,
living from prawn fishing. However, in the very
heart of Disko Bay, this is the touristic pearl
of the country. Located just at the mouth of a
fjord which channels numerous icebergs, the icy
fjord of Ilulissat is an alluring spectacle. It
produces, 6.25 million cubic metres of icebergs
per year, that is the equivalent amount of fresh
water that is consumed annually in France, and
it moves forward 20 metres per day.

NUUK –
Greenland
Capital of Greenland, Nuuk is located at
the edge of one of the biggest fjords in the
world, where the sea never ices over. The
stunning scenery, the presence of many Viking
remains, and the National Museum of Greenland
combine to make this a very rich
call.

QAQORTOQ –
Greenland With approximately 3,000 inhabitants,
Qaqortoq -"the white town"- is the largest town
in southern Greenland. the town boasts many
works of art, perfectly located in various
locations around the centre, as well as many
replica peat houses, and the museum which shows
the tools of the Inuits and the first Icelandic
colonists. |
