◘ Port Description, Location

Safaga port is located at the Red Sea Governorate on the western coast of the Red Sea.
It consists of a broad bay naturally protected from east and north by Safaga Island, and sheltered by mountains from western prevailing winds. Yet, for a brief interval, south winds (El-Azeeb) cause some difficulties. The port drafts are deep, thus enabling the accommodation of large vessels

◘ Navigation

Approach Area

Vessels should approach the northern boundary of the island at sunrise, and at Safaga Port early in the morning and coral reels will appear clearly behind them.

A lighthouse, clearly viewed at the distance of 1.6 km. is built on the southern cape of the island. Ship masters should turn around the cape, and keep 925 m. distanced from the obviously observed coral reefs.

Pilotage

Pilotage is compulsory. Pilots aboard vessels at the inner edge of the entrance channel. The port provides VHF and radar controlled pilotage

Pilots Three senior pilots undertake works.

Tugging

Tugging Charges 275 US$ / hour for foreign vessels, and 175 L.E. / hour for Egyptian vessels, at least 3 hours
